Anoa Changa is a communications strategist, movement journalist, and retired attorney who uses storytelling to shift power. She joined Dēmos as the Director of Communications in early 2023, leading the full scope of communications strategy, including digital, editorial, and public relations.
Before Dēmos, Anoa covered politics, elections, culture, and justice news at Prism and NewsOne. She approaches coverage through a lens that centers on impacted communities and moving beyond the status quo. Her work has appeared in Truthout, Scalawag, Harper's Bazaar, Yes Magazine, and Essence among others.
As a digital and communications strategist, she's shaped the work of several progressive organizations, including as Director of Digital Strategy and Storytelling at the New Georgia Project, which executed historic campaigns to register and civically engage Georgia voters. In her prior life as an attorney, Anoa spent her entire practice in public service, starting in public education and public housing law and policy and later working with a federal agency. Anoa lives in Atlanta.
