Demos

Gould-Werth brings extensive expertise on poverty and inequality issues and a passion for racial and economic justice

New York, NY — Today, Dēmos announced Dr. Alix Gould-Werth, a former official at the U.S. Department of Labor, as the organization’s new Chief of Programs and Strategy. A seasoned national leader on poverty and inequality issues, Gould-Werth brings extensive expertise as well as a passion for economic and racial justice.

“At a time when Congress and the Trump administration work on overdrive to strip workers, Black and brown people, and everyday Americans of their livelihood in order to pay for tax cuts for multimillionaires, Dēmos is pleased to welcome a seasoned leader joining our work to fight back,” said Dēmos President Taifa Smith Butler. “Alix has a history of making a real difference through her work. The expertise she brings will be invaluable to Demos’s efforts to build economic and political power in Black and brown communities.”

Gould-Werth most recently worked at the U.S. Department of Labor as Chief Evaluation Officer within the Chief Evaluation Office, where, through research and evaluation, she worked to improve the efficacy of programs affecting U.S. workers. Prior to her time at the department, Gould-Werth worked as director of family economic security policy at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, shining a light on the need for real solutions for working families, including increased access to paid family and medical leave, more affordable childcare and early education, stable and predictable schedules, and expanded social infrastructure programs.

I’m honored to join an organization with an unflinching focus on defending democracy and advancing economic justice especially at a time when everyday people across the country are seeing their basic rights and freedoms threatened.

“For decades, Demos has been resolute in its fight to build a country in which Black and brown people can thrive,” said Dēmos Chief of Programs Alix Gould-Werth. “I’m honored to join an organization with an unflinching focus on defending democracy and advancing economic justice especially at a time when everyday people across the country are seeing their basic rights and freedoms threatened.”
