Demos Statement on Appointment of CFPB Director

New York, NY – As legal disputes continue over who will become the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) acting Director, Tamara Draut, Vice President of Policy and Research at Demos and Demos Action, released the following statement:

“Since its creation in 2011, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has been the American consumers greatest champion in Washington, protecting working families from greedy and deceitful financial institutions. But now President Trump wants to rig the system against consumers by unlawfully appointing a new Director who would implement the same policies of deregulation that lead to the 2008 financial crisis.

“President Trump should follow the letter of the law and allow acting Director Leandra English to continue to manage this critical agency, until a new director has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate.”
