Press Call: SEC Moves to Require That Corporations Disclose All Political Spending

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) commitment to consider a proposed rule to require disclosure of corporate political spending, the Corporate Reform Coalition will hold a press call on Tuesday, January 8th at 9:30 am to discuss this positive development, share expert analysis, and urge the agency to move swiftly to complete the rule-making this year.

This is an important step to protect investors and to address the flow of secret corporate political spending that has arisen after Citizens United. After a historic outpouring of investor demand, reflected in the more than 322,000 public comments in favor of a rule requiring disclosure of corporate political spending, the SEC has committed to consider the rule-making petition filed in 2011 by a bipartisan committee of leading law professors.

WHAT: Press call on SEC action on disclosure of corporate political spending. Speakers will include Professors Lucian Bebchuk of Harvard Law School and Robert Jackson of Columbia Law School (the lead filers of the petition to the SEC requesting this rule-making); Adam Kanzer of Domini Social Investments LLC; and others to be confirmed.

WHEN: 9:30 am EST Tuesday January 8th

HOW: Call: 800-875-3456; Passcode: VP51260. There will be a Q&A for participants.

RSVP: Please email Joe Hines at [email protected] or call 212.633.1405 ext. 553 to confirm your participation in the press call.
