The Trouble With The University Of Phoenix

A new report released this morning by Senator Harkin, “ For Profit Higher Education: The Failure to Safeguard the Federal Investment and Ensure Student Success,” would be the final nail in the coffin for for-profit colleges.

“For Profit Higher Education” lays out what groups like Demos have been arguing for year, for-profit colleges are risky, government funded institutions. These colleges have proven to care more about enrolling than retaining and graduating students, are more likely to leave students in debt than public/non-profit institutions, and cost taxpayers billions each year.

For-profit colleges make up 13 percent of the nations’ college student enrollment, and are responsible for a whopping 43 percent of the nation’s student debt.  To make matters worse, upon graduating these students will earn no more than they did upon entering school, unlike graduates from non-profit/public colleges.
