Senator Chuck Schumer wrote to U.S. Attorney General  Eric Holder, calling for stronger enforcement of voter registration provisions in the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. In this letter, Sen. Schumer cites work done by Demos in Ohio to force the state to social service voter registration provisions in the NVRA, resulting in a jump from approximately 24,000 voter registrations a year through social services to 191,000. "It is clear that tougher enforcement was necessary," writes Sen. Schumer "and Ohio's stronger compliance efforts are showing real results."
