About
The Democracy Program works to strengthen democracy in the United States by reducing barriers to voter participation and encouraging civic engagement. Demos supports state and national reform efforts by conducting research on current and long-range issues; advancing a broad agenda for election reform; providing advocates and policymakers with technical support; conducting litigation; and strengthening reform networks.
Recent and ongoing work includes:
- Reforming voter registration laws to meet 21st century standards, including a national campaign to promote Election Day Registration and working with states to fully implement the National Voter Registration Act.
- Advocating for effective election administration standards that ensure fairness, accuracy and integrity, including efforts to implement key reforms of the Help America Vote Act, such as fair use of provisional ballots.
- Conducting research into the nature of voter fraud in U.S. elections and providing policy recommendations for fair and secure ballot access.
- Exploring new ways Americans are engaging in and reshaping democracy through the use of technology.
