Demos Statement on the Decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to Block President Trump’s Muslim Ban

Thursday, February 9 (NEW YORK, NY) – Heather McGhee, President of Demos, a New York-based public policy organization and think tank, issued the following statement applauding the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal’s unanimous decision to uphold the existing temporary restraining order against President Trump’s Muslim ban.

“Today’s decision by the Ninth Circuit is not only a victory for the many individuals and families hoping to live their lives in our great nation – it is also an important win for our core American values.

“President Trump’s executive order to restrict the entrance of Muslims from seven countries defies the principles that already make our country great. Its unconstitutionality is why the Ninth Circuit has unanimously stopped it in its tracks. But we, as Americans who believe in the fundamental rights of all people, also know that we are better than this ban. And that is why men and women, young and old, have risen up across the country against it.

“Tonight is not the end of our fight. As this case progresses through our judiciary, we must continue to stand up in defense of the Constitution, basic human rights and the future of our nation. We are and will remain a country of immigrants. It is not only our responsibility but also our duty as occupants of the United States to resist the targeting and oppression of any one community. We the people, as a collective power, will prevail.”
