Policy Analyst Economic Opportunity Program
Demos, a national public policy organization, seeks qualified applicants for a Policy Analyst position in the Economic Opportunity Program. The Economic Opportunity Program is focused on addressing the widespread economic insecurity and declining opportunity that characterizes American society today. Our efforts are focused on growing and strengthening the middle class, with a particular focus on the economic challenges confronting a new generation of young people. Our work examining the growth of personal debt among low- to middle-income households is indicative of the new challenges people face as they try to get by--let alone get ahead.
Responsibilities Include:
- Research and writing reports, fact sheets and other documents on issues impacting young people aged 18-30, with a particular emphasis on low-income individuals and communities of color.
- Research and writing on issues related to rising debt among low- to middle-income households.
- Identifying state-based policy solutions to improve college access and affordability; savings and debt reduction; and other issues impacting economic security and mobility.
- Identifying and cultivating productive relationships with important contacts in various state agencies, governments, and advocacy organizations.
- Contributing to the development of the Economic Opportunity program agenda and strategies.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in public policy, economics or related field.
- Minimum two years of relevant experience.
- Outstanding research ability, with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity and experience with economic security issues preferred.
- Team player with good interpersonal skills and sense of humor.

Development Associate
Description:
The Development Associate will be responsible for supporting a comprehensive fundraising strategy to sustain and grow Demos' programming and mission. Demos' fundraising work includes writing grant proposals and reports, research about and outreach to foundations and individual donors, and planning and execution of cultivation events. The Development Associate will provide administrative and logistical support to the Director of Development and Manager of Individual Giving.

Core Responsibilities:

Assist the Director of Development and Manager of Individual Giving in executing the fundraising strategy;

Assist in the cultivation, acknowledgment, and stewardship of prospective and current foundations and individual donors;

Conduct research and gather information related to the work of the department;
-
Write and edit correspondence, reports, and proposals;
-
Perform regular maintenance of the database, including updating donor records, processing account code and donation changes, and keeping organized paper records for reconciliations, audits, and general hard copy history;

Maintain the department calendar, including scheduling meetings, coordinating conference calls, and arranging for travel;
-
Undertake other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

1-2 years development experience preferred;

Exceptional attention to detail;

Organized, collegial, and able to work both independently and as member of a team;

Excellent writing, organization and research abilities;

Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
-
Highly-motivated - able to take initiative and to prioritize tasks and work accurately under pressure;

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with Raiser's Edge strongly preferred.
Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience. Generous benefits include health and dental, 401k, and four weeks paid vacation plus holidays.
