Making Waves and Riding the Currents: Activism and the Practice of Wisdom, New Book by Social Activist, Founding CUNY Law Dean Charles Halpern Published

NYC Book Launch Event on January 30, 2008, Events Scheduled Nationally

New York, NY--Demos, a national, non-partisan public policy organization, announces a special public event and book launch with its co-founder, law expert and social activist Charles R. Halpern, who will be discussing his new book, "Making Waves and Riding the Currents: Activism and the Practice of Wisdom," on January 30, 2008 at The Nathan Cummings Foundation in New York City.

In "Making Waves," Halpern demonstrates distinct and imperative ways of developing inner resources that complement cognitive and adversarial life-based skills. He clearly explains how these discoveries led him to the conviction that he calls the "practice of wisdom" is vital to both his efficacy and well-being as well as to our collective capacity to productively address the challenges of the 21st Century.

"Making Waves and Riding the Currents" demonstrates the impact that integrating a commitment to social justice and the cultivation of wisdom can have on one's life. Through his experiences Charlie explains how to effectively aim toward a more benevolent, fair, and sustainable world while simultaneously accumulating the wisdom that helps to sustain it.

"Making Waves and Riding the Currents: Activism and the Practice of Wisdom"--Book Launch and Discussion with Charles Halpern

Date: Wed., Jan. 30, 2008

Time: Program and Reception from 5:30-7:30 pm

Location: at The Nathan Cummings Foundation 475 Tenth Avenue, 14th Floor New York, NY

Advance Praise: "It was long believed that wisdom is to the soul what health is to the body. Charles Halpern has lived as if there is no distinction--that body, soul, wisdom, and health are one and the same in a life fully lived with great passion. This most creative of public citizens--lawyer, educator, philanthropist, catalyst of ideas and institutions--has put into practice what he writes in these pages. A nation wandering in the wilderness, as we are, could not ask for a better guide toward clarity and compassion."
--Bill Moyers
