A simple reform to give candidates the freedom to run with the endorsement of more than one political party, fusion voting would give voters their choice of both candidate and party.
Along with Demos' commitment to lowering barriers to participation is an equally important and compelling piece of work - expanding methods of civic engagement. How can we inspire people - particularly from traditionally disenfranchised communities - to participate in our democracy? Sometimes we may need to find new methods to encourage voting. And sometimes we need to open up the doors to democratic participation in other ways. Can public decisions be made through other means? Demos is exploring means to engaging in this work. And this work is likely to expand in the future. At the lead of our work is Senior Fellow Allison Fine's important work on using social media for civic engagement.
