About Voter Fraud, Voter ID and Election Integrity

Demos has been conducting research on the incidence of voter fraud since the early 2000s. This research combined with evidence from peers in the field suggest one fact: All contemporary evidence suggests that individual voter fraud is rare and that the source of voters' election concerns lie elsewhere--administrative problems, database errors, voter suppression efforts, lack of poll worker training among them.

Nevertheless, opponents of election reform efforts aimed at promoting citizen participation often manipulate the fear of fraud to defeat reform proposals and to introduce new obstacles to voting, such as excessive Voter Identification requirements.
