About Demos
Founded in 2000, Demos' purpose is to help build a society where America can achieve its highest democratic ideals. Three principles are at the heart of our mission:

  • Strong Democracy. More people must be brought into public life if Americans are to be a truly free people. Demos works to broaden political participation, reduce inequities in power and amplify civic voices that now are barely heard.

  • Economic Opportunity. All Americans should be able to realize their dreams through hard work. Demos works to expand the middle class, helping more people share in the nation’s prosperity and take charge of their lives.

  • Effective Government. The ties that bind Americans to one another must be made stronger. Demos seeks to renew the public sector so we can better advance our common goals and ideals.

Demos blends research and advocacy to pursue its mission. Through policy reports and media commentary, we are a regular presence in public debates and offer fresh solutions to the nation’s problems. We also work closely with a diverse array of elected officials, advocates and grassroots activists to push for change.

Demos' Democracy Program is directed by Stuart Comstock-Gay.
