Rich Benjamin on Here & Now: Race Issues Reverberate In Zimmerman Trial

| audio

Here & Now spoke with Demos Senior Fellow Rich Benjamin about the Zimmerman Trial, its context within a racially charged atmosphere, and its impact on our racial future.

When asked how important the trial may be for race relations in 2013, Benjamin explained, "We are approaching a society where white peoples, in the not too distant future, will be a minority. In order for such a society to actually work, everyone has to be invested, and everyone has to be trusting of the law, that the law serves us equally." An acquittal of Zimmerman could lead the black community to conclude that they are not viewed as equals with other communities in the eyes of the law.
